Tonal Nature (graphite/charcoal)

After more than a year of pandemic isolation in late May 2021 I spent 2 weeks at Dorland Mountain artist’s retreat in southwest California. In a small cabin set into the hills outside of Temecula, I spent my days in more solitude, hiking and drawing. The winds, the trees, the birds- these sounds replaced the traffic, sirens, and shouting voices that are the soundtrack of my urban neighborhood. These drawings were made in grateful response to the natural world after spending a long long Covid winter indoors. Graphite, charcoal, watercolor and ink on cotton rag paper.
